Juan Carlos Luna

Founder and principal guide at Birding Colombia, Juan Carlos is a Colombian ornithologist and guide with 9 years experience guiding international birding groups and over 20 years experience as a field researcher. In fact he started working as researcher at just 19 years old. His first big project was when he worked for two years in the Central Cordillera investigating the threatened Yellow-eared Parrot. Later the parrot would become the emblem of the ProAves Foundation of which Juan Carlos is a founding member. Later he worked in San Andres, Paujil, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Nariño and over 2 years in Santander. He was the leader of the Booby ringing program on the Pacific Island of Malpelofor 4 consecutive years. With ProAves, he was instrumental in establishing and protecting some of the most important reserves in Colombia. Since 2009 he has been has leading expeditions to the most far-flung and logistically-challenging corners of Colombia, looking for new species, new countries records and deeper understanding of his country’s diversity. During his travels he has added many new species to the Colombian list and rediscovered species which had not been seen by anyone in decades! He has been leading tours and guiding for the last 9 years.


Miles McMullan

Miles is an author and illustrator of Field Guide to the Birds of Colombia, 2010, All-new Field Guide to the Birds of Colombia, 2014, Field book of the Birds of Ecuador, 2013, 2017, Field Guide to the Hummingbirds, 2016 and Field guide to the Galapagos Islands, 2017. As well as his work as an author, he has been guiding in the American tropics for 13 years.

Juan Julio has 7 years of experience driving birding trips in Colombia, with extensive knowledge of the popular birding routes as well as special spots that other tours do not know about. His personal list stands at over 1000 birds!! Jorge Alberto Posada G.

Jorge is a biologist, with a masters degree in tropical ecology. He started in ornithology during his undergraduate studies, taking special interest in plant-animal interactions. For more than twelve years he has actively participated in ornithological expeditions as an environmental consultant and as a field researcher. For three years he has been involved with the guiding and training of environmental interpreters for community tourism initiatives
