Site Description:
This island is better-known for its beautiful beaches and laid-back Caribbean vibes. However, it is also a very important island for stop-over and wintering Neotropical migrants (Oct-March). It has two resident endemics: San Andres Vireo and San Andres Mockingbird, sometimes considered a subspecies of the Tropical Mockingbird. Also of interest are more widespread Caribbean birds including White-crowned Pigeon, Caribbean Elaenia, Thick-billed Vireo, Jamaican Oriole and Black-faced Grassquit.
The island is quite small and easily covered by car or bicycle. Any patch of forest, especially in the central and southern end of the island, can be productive for the species of interest. Mangroves along the coast may hold interesting waterbirds as well.
